With the winter season getting closer every day, a lot of people might be considering which is the best, most efficient, and cost-effective way to keep their houses warm.
In the UK, radiators are the most popular heating technology, but are somewhat inefficient and will take a big toll on your electricity bill. Radiators work by heating up the air around them, which makes the air rise when it is warm, and fall when it has cooled down. This means that your home will have warm ceilings and cold floors, which is not ideal.
Underfloor heating combats this by acting as a large radiator, on the floor. Because it keeps the temperature consistent throughout the room and warms up your house evenly and efficiently, it wastes less heat when compared to traditional radiators, and in this way becomes a lot more cost-effective solution.
Underfloor heating is not without faults: traditionally, this is done with heating pipes, which are stapled directly onto an insulation board. This can create hot and cold spots on the floor, instead of it being evenly distributed. While still much more cost effective than traditional radiators, this is still not an ideal situation.
With thermoformed plastic comes a solution to this problem. Thermoformed trays make stapling down the heating pipes much easier. A ‘plastic egg crate’ system allows for the pipes to be laid out easily in whatever formation the workmen believe to suit the room best, and then they can simply push it down between the plastic protrusions. This makes it a much quicker process, which then also becomes cheaper. When the pipes are correctly laid into the tray, this process ensures a faster and more even warm up and lower heat losses.
