Thermoformed plastic products are all around us every single day. They are used in a wide range of applications including food packaging, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, from things like food trays, yoghurt tubs or sandwich packs. Thermoforming, even if unnoticed by most, is part of our daily lives. So how does it work?
The thermoforming process starts by heating up a thermoplastic, such as polystyrene or polypropylene. The heat will allow the plastic material to soften. This heated plastic is then pulled over a mould of whatever desired shape and the trapped air is sucked out to form a tight fit over the mould. The leftover plastic is then cut out and saved for recycling. The finished products are then stacked and packed into boxes for transportation to the end customer.
This process allows for high-volume, low-cost production. This way we can meet our clients’ needs at very competitive prices.
